The Fa'avae Sister playing in the same team
Saturday 23 July both Daisy and Presayus were able to play in the same team being our Senior C team. This is Presayus team this season and as there were 3 players away on this day this left our Senior C team with 6 players only. Coach Mere asked for Daisy and Cailtin from our top U17 team to come and fill in and help the C team this week. Daisy filled in at WA while Presayus played in her usual position at GA.
Well done girls, this is great to see our sisters being able to play in the same team together. |
Cadbury Volunteer of the Month for July
Rose has been with Hornby Netball Club for 11 years. She first became involved in 2009 when her sister entered a team under Hornby Netball Clubs name to play in the Saturday competition. Rose supporrted her sister Lynda for the next 3 years as the stats lady for this team , plus supported her sister Lynda the the teams she coach 2009-U11G, 2010 - U12J, 2011 - U13I and 2012- U14H. Lynda then stopped coaching due to personal illness at which time Rose also took her leave. Rose has always been a keen supporter of girls that have played for HNC and in 2016 Rose returned but as coach this time with her own girls to make a team. She took on looking after the U19E team that her neice played in. 2017 Rose was coaching the U15J team that this time her daughter was playing in. 2018 it was the U17H team, 2019 U17I team and in 2020 Rose took on Co Coaching the Senior C team with the President of HNC Lynlea Willan. 2021 Rose still continued as Co Coach for the Senior C with Lynlea and in 2022 Rose is Co Coaching with Lynlea the Club Senior A team. The challenge this year is to rebuild the team and continue to do well in the CNC Competition. Rose also gives her time every year when the club is running their trials for all teams from Senior to Junior teams. Rose helps with the selecting of players into teams which is a very time consuming job every year. This is done over seveal weekends and usually 3 hours x 3 days for the Seniors and for the Juniors it is 5 hrs x 2 lots of trials run. The time Rose gives to HNC is in the vacinity of 70-80 hours when we are in season. In the off season Roase takes a group of players to play summer netball and although this is not that time consuming it is building relationships with the current players in the club plus draws in new players all the time. We are so lucky to have her as a very valued member of our Club.
The Dorgan sisters playing in the same team
Kyla first played for the club in 2009 when the club was formed. She played in our FF Stars team that year. Kyla not only played for the club through the years she also coached and umpired as well. Kyla sadly left us at the end of the 2019season, where she had been playing in our Senior B team for several years.
Kyla headed for greener pastures in Dunedin to the University and further her career as a School teacher. We miss Kyla and her very cocky, positive, happy go lucky attitude. Gabriella was the next Dorgan to join and play for the club in 2014. She was a FF Hawk. Gabby not only playes for the club but also is a current coach (U14K team) and continues to help with umpiring where and when she is available. HOW THIS HAPPENED ...... Kyla just happen to be in Chch for the weekend and called to ask if there was a team she could play for. Of course there was, and she played a full game for our Senior C team and then headed to the Senior B team to watch sister Gabby and found herself playing in the same team. Only took 6 years to happen but we were so happy to see them on the court together. Great to see the strength and loyality that HNC has with our families. |
First ever for HNC - Mums and Bubs all playing in the same team this season
L to R standing : Nat Jones(mum is Luci), Eva Jones (no relation), Amber Tawhai, Sharlene Teirney, Luci Jones and Sue Gibson.
Kneeling at front: Aliyah Teirney-Lambert (mum is Sharlene) and Manu Tawhai (mum is Amber)
This is a very special time for HNC to have all these mums and their daughters playing in the same team together. Nat and Aliyah, along with Luci and Sharlene were founding players/coaches in 2009. Only taken 14 years to have this happen. How proud we are.
